How prefill works
Progression, Last Session, or Off. Who fills in your numbers.
When an exercise opens in a workout, something has to decide what sits in the weight and reps fields. Settings → Prefill Values picks who:
- Progression (the default): Trainlike’s engine reads your recent performances and prescribes today’s numbers, shown with a verdict chip you can always audit.
- Last Session: fields repeat exactly what you did last time. No prescriptions, just memory.
- Off: empty fields, you type everything.
In Progression mode the same screen also sets your default Rep Range (8-12 unless you change it), the range every lift progresses in when neither the routine nor the exercise says otherwise.
Who outranks whom
One prescriber per exercise per workout, in a strict order: numbers you wrote into the routine win over everything, then an accepted coach tip, then the progression engine, then plain last-time memory. Whatever filled the fields, typing over it always wins; prefill is a starting point, not a cage.
How the engine thinks
Deterministic rules, not vibes: match your best to earn an increase, close out your rep range and the weight moves, come up short and it eases back as far as your sets say. It follows your rep scheme, so pyramid days are judged on the top set. The evidence is one tap away on every chip.
Which mode is for you?
Run Progression unless you have a program with its own loading plan written in, in which case your authored numbers rule anyway and the engine stands aside per exercise. Last Session suits pure do-what-I-did-last-time training.
