Verdict chips
What +5 LBS, MATCH YOUR BEST, and EASING BACK mean.
Open an exercise in a workout and the decision is already made: a small chip in the header says what today’s numbers should do, and the fields below it are prefilled to match.
The vocabulary
- +5 LBS / +1 REP: you earned it last time, the load or reps move up.
- MATCH YOUR BEST: hit your best recent performance again and the next increase unlocks.
- HOLD STEADY: you matched your best, but your logged effort says every set was at the limit, so the load holds one session to bank a cleaner one before moving up.
- PUSH TO MOVE UP: a stall would normally ease the weight back, but your logged effort shows room left. Push these sets before anything comes off the bar.
- EASING BACK −5 LBS: your last sets came in under plan, so the weight steps back by the real distance your sets showed, not a fixed percentage. It climbs again as soon as you do. Lifts whose weight cannot be cut ease reps instead (DELOAD −3 REPS).
- TOP SET prefix: on pyramid and reverse pyramid schemes, an increase is judged on your top set (“TOP SET +5 LBS”) and the other sets ladder around it. Assisted exercises get ASSIST verdicts, where less help is the progress.
Two chips that are not verdicts
The same spot can carry FIRST TIME · HOW TO START on a lift you have never logged (tap it for a starting weight and cues), or TRAIN AT 5-8? when three straight sessions ran outside your rep range and Trainlike thinks the range should follow you. Both open a sheet; nothing changes unless you accept.
Tap the chip for the receipt
Every verdict opens a sheet with the one-line why and the recent workouts it was judged on. No black box: it names the number you had to beat, shows the sets that beat it, and says why the load moves.
When chips stay away
Verdicts only appear when Trainlike prescribed the numbers. Exercises where you wrote your own weights, and workouts run in Last Session or Off mode, get no verdict: your plan, your numbers. And after two months away from a lift, the engine goes quiet rather than guessing; it re-anchors on your comeback session.
